Spring & Fall -

REFS
 - Respect the referee's before, during and after the game. After the game, seek them out and say "Good Game". They can use all the encouragement you can give them.

If a referee does not show-up for your game, go ahead & start the game on time.

No player will be allowed to play with a hard cast (padded or otherwise).

Goals - First games build the goals. Last games on schedule need to bag the goals and put them away. (Pierce goals just need to be moved to near the container/storage bin)
1st games.  If they do not start ontime (because the team failed to retrieve and set up goals) that is too bad. THE NEXT game begins ontime!!!

Games -  are still not starting on time and/or not finishing on time. Particularly on the younger age groups.

NO Baseball shoes!!!  Baseball shoes are not designed for soccer (running & kicking a ball) & the cleats are dangerous!

Ball Size-
Size 3 - U5, 6, 7, 8.
Size 4 - U9, 10, 11, 12.
Size 5 U13, 14, 15.

Substitution: Substitutions may be made during dead-ball situations ONLY regardless of possession. Teams must gain the referees attention. Substitutions should not be made on the fly!

Shin guards must be covered entirely by socks NOT on top. They should be made of a suitable material (rubber, plastic, or similar substances) & provide a reasonable degree of protection.

FIFA rules
Referees should check shoes and shin guards before a game begins.   No player may participate without shin guards. This is a liability issue and thus there are no exceptions. Additionally, players are not be allowed to participate in practice scrimmages, or any drill which puts players in competition with each other, without shin guards.
Coaches, it's a good idea to carry an extra pair of shin guards as part of your regular equipment, so that when the parents are irresponsible, the child is not penalized.

JEWELRY Players can not wear watches, necklaces, earringshair clips or other jewelry during games. Make sure to help the refs spot these so we can prevent unnecessary injuries from sharp objects. Make sure to help the refs spot these so we can prevent unnecessary injuries from sharp objects.

PLAYING TIME! - Each player has the right to play AT LEAST half of each and every game. Unless the player is unable to play due to injury or illness or unwilling to play, there are NO acceptable exceptions.

Flip a coin to see Home Team or Visiting team (Home picks Sidelines)

SIDELINES - Each team and their parents AND their coaches should be on opposite sideline. Keep yourself, your players and your parents back at least 3 feet from the sidelines so the refs can do their job and players don't run into those on the side lines.

END LINES - Coaching goalies from behind the end line is not allowed.

COACHES - There may only be two coaches per team. They must stay on the side that their team is on and may not go to the opposing team's side. Coaches are allowed 10 yards on either side of the midfield line-no further down the touchlines.

FIELD OF PLAY - Coaches are not allowed on the field of play during a game. This includes ALL divisions, even the youngest. Let them play!

LOPSIDE SCORES - Do everything in your power as a coach to keep games reasonably close, we do not want scores of 10-0.

NO DOGS ALLOWED - We mean it.

TRASH - If you bring IT, then you take IT home or throw it in the trash. This includes the remains of orange slices. Leaving trashon the field is grounds for CANCELATION of our permits! NO PERMIT, NO LEAGUE!

Your Fields Your Trash Our fields need your help. The help of the coaches, the players and most especially the parents. Please help teach the kids the importance of leaving the sidelines as clean as the fields they play on. WVSL hopes that you will take your trash with you and recycle it at home.
AT A MINIMUM, put it in the trash cans, please!

ENCOURAGEMENT Stick to positive words, it has so much of a better effect on the kids.

PLAYER CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS - NO FOUL LANGUAGE - The majority of our players personify exemplary conduct on the field. That said, there have been a number of instances of player conduct which are unacceptable, many of them involving "foul language". Make sure your child knows that they can be removed from a game for using inappropriate language. No excuses! The referees have been instructed to stop play if foul language is used. A yellow card will be issued on the first occurrence, and a red card (game ejection) will be issued on the second occurance.

WEATHER
-Each coach is responsible to determining if the weather or field conditions warrants canceling a practice or game. Always err on the safe side.
